Overview

Twenty-four (24) states are covered entirely by the federal OSHA program.

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Division(IOSHA) is dedicated to ensuring Hoosier workplace safety and health. To be successful IOSHA will improve workplace safety and health for all Indiana workers by reducing hazards and exposures in the workplace environment that result in occupational injuries, illnesses and fatalities. IOSHA works to change workplace culture to increase employer and worker awareness of, commitment to, and involvement in workplace safety and health while securing public confidence through excellence in the development and delivery of our programs and services. The IOSHA Division consists of four sections that conduct inspections to ensure compliance with IOSHA standards. The Section of Industrial Safety is responsible for public and private sector safety in the commercial, agricultural and industrial sector of the Indiana economy. The Industrial Hygiene Section focuses on recognition and evaluation of exposure to occupational health hazards such as atmospheric contaminants, chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards. The Section of Construction Safety is responsible for the safety in the construction industry in Indiana. The Integrated Management Information Systems Section collects IOSHA inspection data and enters it on the IMIS federal computer system which tracks the numbers and types of inspections, the numbers and types of violations cited and reflects each inspector's activities. IMIS also prepares the safety orders issued for violations, and provides support to IOSHA Section Directors.
